This CME activity provides a practical, evidence-based review of the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including acute pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The presentation examines how risk stratification guides treatment decisions, including the selection of patients who may benefit from advanced interventions such as systemic thrombolysis, catheter-directed therapy, or mechanical thrombectomy. It also addresses management considerations for isolated subsegmental PE and isolated distal DVT, including when anticoagulation or clinical surveillance may be appropriate.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Identify appropriate patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) who may benefit from interventional therapies.
Determine when anticoagulation or clinical surveillance is appropriate for patients with isolated subsegmental PE and isolated distal DVT.
Select an appropriate initial anticoagulant regimen for patients with acute DVT and PE based on clinical risk and patient factors.
Evaluate the risks and benefits of extended anticoagulation following completion of initial treatment for DVT or PE.
Apply current evidence and guideline recommendations to individualized VTE treatment decisions, including balancing the risks of recurrent VTE against major bleeding.
