Course Overview

This CME explores the use and misuse of controlled substances in pain management. It covers pain definitions, assessment, treatment options, opioid use disorder, and risk mitigation.

Course Objectives

  • Define key terms related to pain management.

  • Evaluate current practices for assessing and managing acute and chronic pain.

  • Determine the appropriate use of opioids for pain management.

  • Implement strategies for recognizing and treating Opioid Use Disorders.

  • Discuss common side effects of opioids and their management.

Target Audience

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, first responders, Residents/Fellows, and Medical Students from all specialties.
