
SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment
Course Overview
Screening assesses the severity of substance use and identifies the correct level of treatment. Brief intervention focuses on bringing increased insight and awareness regarding substance use and motivation toward behavioral change. Referral to treatment provides those identified as needing more treatment with access to specialty care.
Course Objectives
· Discuss substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder, are prevalent among the pregnant population with associated morbidity and mortality for patients and their infants
· Review how patients receive significant variation in services which can lead to patient and/or neonatal complications
· Review Universal Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) using an accepted questionnaire-based tool for every patient.
· This purpose of this educational opportunity is to address Nevada specific CME requirements related to SBIRT.
Target Audience
All active Physician, Physician Assistant & Anesthesiologist Assistant licensees. All CMEs must be AMA PRA Category 1 (for MDs and AAs), classified by the AAPA as Category 1 (for PAs), or NSBME Board approved
